  • S-TILESTONE

    APPLICATION

S-tilestone flexible stone veneers installation can be easily done using many of the basic tools used in most tile work.

S-tilestone flexible stone veneers can be applied over: concrete, ceramic, wood, metal, plywood, fiberglass, backer board, tile, dry wall, painted surfaces, MDF, Masonite®, door skins, cabinetry and many other substrates as well.

    CAN BE USED FOR –

    interior
    exterior
    door
    furniture
    fireplace
    ceiling
    bathroom

    FLEXIBILITY

S-tilestone flexible stone veneers can be used the same way thin laminate type products are used. It will bend to a minimum radius depending on the stone color or type before cracking. With the assist of heat smaller radii can be achieved. Testing should always be done prior to any installation. It can be arched or bent inward or outward to meet a given look or architecture. Fiberglass strand are used in the makeup of S-tilestone flexible stone veneers, which gives it strength and flexibility.

    SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Prior to application it is best to clean, brush, and degrease any surface of dust or oils.

    LAYOUT & PATTERNS

Preparation of the area to be covered and the layout of the S-tilestone flexible stone veneers is the same as for natural stone or tile. Time spent preparing the work area will pay off immensely. A preliminary dry fit of S-tilestone flexible stone veneers allows for arrangements and orientation of individual sheets, patterns, textures, and colours before final placement. It is recommended that each sheet be dry fit exactly where it will be placed on horizontal or vertical surfaces. Numbering the sheets to track relocation before cutting and trimming is recommended and will save time.

    CUTTING

Cutting straight lines and curves is best done using long nosed tin snips. S-tilestone flexible stone veneers can also be cut with a metal shear, wet saw, or table saw with carbide blade.

    ADHESIVES

Know your adhesives; by understanding the specifics of the adhesive, a good deal of time and cost can be saved. All adhesives should be tested prior to any installation including consideration of moisture and temperature in the planned environment. If the application is outdoors, consideration to thermal expansion needs to be taken into account. Since S-tilestone flexible stone veneers is a veneer it must expand and contract with the substrate or de-lamination may occur. Where adhesive primers are recommended the bond should be tested by the installer before final installation.

    RECOMMENDED ADHESIVES

We recommend using the following adhesives:
    • Heavy duty construction adhesive.
    • Polyurethane wood glues and PU construction grade adhesives.
    • Solvent Free FRP adhesive.
    • Wood, parquet, and outdoor carpet adhesives.
    • Premixed grout and tile adhesive
    • Thick latex or acrylic latex type tile adhesive. Use only where air drying can take place. Not recommended for exterior applications.
    • Acrylic copolymer based tile adhesive.
    • Epoxy or Silicone (with primer only).
    • Construction grade multi-purpose adhesive or Polyester resin with filler.
    • Double-sided foam adhesive (peel & stick). Sealers

    * Please consult us if any doubt. We understand that not all products are available in every country so our support team is ready to help you find the right adhesive/sealers in your country.

    TILING, GROUTING & JOINTING

S-tilestone flexible stone veneers can be also be used to create a tiled effect by leaving a grout joint between cut pieces. Sheets may also be butt jointed for a minimal seam look. Due to the thin nature of S-tilestone flexible stone veneers a narrower grout joint will produce better results. Test show the use of water based epoxy grouts, premixed acrylic grouts, or sanded grouts work best. These grouts are available in several colors to match the desired decor. Always apply masking tape on the edges on all sides prior to grouting. On final clean up with a sponge, the epoxy grout will also seal and fill the S-tilestone flexible stone veneers surface. If desired a deeper grout joint can be achieved by removing material just under the grout joint area. For exterior applications we recommend having a grout join between the sheets.

    HAND ROLLERS

A hand roller is recommended to remove air between S-tilestone flexible stone veneers sheet and substrate. To properly roll out trapped air start in the middle of a sheet while firmly rolling out towards the edge. Do not press too hard while rolling as this may cause too much adhesive to push out. Proper back-filling and good rolling techniques will result in a solid hard surface. Do not use non-catalyzing (water vapor type) cure adhesives where the substrate is a moisture barrier. Non-catalyzing adhesive will not cure properly if applied between non-porous materials.

    SEALERS

It is best to seal S-tilestone flexible stone veneers at the end of installation. This protects and seals the face from adhesives and grout during installation and handling. Please test any sealer for the desired luster and penetration required prior to installation.

  • TRANS-TILE

    APPLICATION

TRANS-TILE is a stone veneer with a transparent backing which illuminates upon having a back light. Installation can be easily done using many of the basic tools used in most tile work.

It is recommended that TRANS-TILE be applied over a clear acrylic sheet of at least 6mm. You may choose to increase the thickness depending on your application.

    LIGHTING

For TRANS-TILE you can choose any colour of LED light depending on the look and feel you want. However, it is advisable to always check the light prior to installation on the sheets. The simplest method for uniform illumination is an LED panel with high light output. However, you can also use fluorescent tubes, incandescent bulbs or LED strips; in this case, a silver foil between the light source and the translucent decor helps to distribute the light better. A sufficient distance between the light source and the TRANS-TILE sheet also ensures optimal light diffusion.

    TILING, GROUTING & JOINTING

TRANS-TILE can be also be used to create a tiled effect by leaving a grout joint between cut pieces. Sheets may also be butt jointed for a minimal seam look.
